For sale: “Basilico” fruit bowl, created in 1997 by the renowned Italian designer and architect Ettore Sottsass, a major figure in 20th-century design and founder of the Memphis Group.
This piece is produced by the Japanese company Marutomi.
This model perfectly illustrates Sottsass’s expressive and colorful aesthetic: a simple geometric form combined with contrasting colors, typical of his formal language. The object oscillates between sculpture and everyday item, transforming a simple fruit bowl into a sculptural design piece.
Made of phenolic resin with a polyurethane lacquer finish, it features a combination of geranium red and brown, a signature color palette often found in Sottsass’s work. The piece is marked on the base with the designer’s and manufacturer’s names.
Both functional and decorative, this fruit bowl can be used as a fruit bowl, centerpiece, or collector’s item, and integrates perfectly into a contemporary interior or a collection of radical Italian design.
