This handled porringer is a testament to the craftsmanship of Étains du Manoir, a Parisian house that perpetuated the tradition of art pewter throughout the 20th century. The castle hallmark, "ÉTAINS DU MANOIR, PARIS FRANCE," proudly appears beneath the openwork handle. The piece bears reference number 1332 and dates from the production of the 1970s to 1980s. The porringer combines a thick and clear glass bowl with a wide polished pewter band, extended by a handle cut in baroque scrolls, inspired by the silversmith porringers of the Grand Siècle. This interplay between the transparency of the glass and the matte sheen of the pewter gives the object a presence that is both rustic and precious. One is reminded of the porringers of yesteryear, offered at birth or baptism, displayed on the sideboards of stately homes. This piece revives that memory while gracefully fitting into a contemporary interior. One can imagine it on a side table, the late afternoon light gliding over the pewter and passing through the glass to cast silvery reflections on the wood. A trinket dish near the entrance, a dried fruit bowl on a festive table, or a simple object of contemplation, it evokes a France of craftsmanship and beautiful materials.
