Mahogany bowfront chest of drawers Beautiful bowfront or bowfronted chest of drawers from England in a beautiful flamed mahogany. ca 1850. Curved front or bowfronted chest of drawers were made by good craftsmen. The wood bending had to be done skillfully and also the veneer was carefully chosen from the best wood and often as here applied in mirror image to the front of the cabinet. The more intense the flamed pattern the more valuable the cabinet was. so this is clearly a case of a good craftsman. The drawers are slightly shallower towards the top to create a visually pleasing appearance and all the borders around the drawers are still intact, even the cover plates of the handles are still original. At the two front corners, the cabinet was finished with a pattern of vertical lines on the beveled corners. A small simple line was also incorporated on the side and of the top. Cabinet in very nice condition and nice compact size 1540€.
