Product description
Gaetano Sciolari for Sciolari Lighting, “Cubic” Pendant Chandelier, Italy, Circa 1970. An exceptional and increasingly rare “Cubic” pendant chandelier designed by Gaetano Sciolari and manufactured by Sciolari, Italy, circa 1970. Representing one of the designer’s more sculptural and architecturally driven creations, this striking fixture embodies the refined geometric language of late Italian Modernism. The composition is formed by intersecting satin brass beams that appear to float effortlessly through a dynamic arrangement of bronze-patinated cubic volumes, creating the impression of an abstract cityscape suspended in space. Concealed light sources within the structure emit a warm, ambient glow, accentuating the rich interplay of light, shadow, and the beautifully aged brass surfaces. Unlike the polished chrome and glass designs that would later define much of Sciolari’s production, the Cubic model reflects an earlier, more restrained aesthetic influenced by architectural modernism and the emerging Brutalist movement. The naturally mellowed brass and original bronze patina lend the fixture remarkable depth and character, highlighting over five decades of authentic aging while preserving its sophisticated sculptural presence. Viewed from every angle, the chandelier reveals a constantly changing composition of intersecting planes and cantilevered forms, making it as much a work of art as a functional lighting object. Its commanding silhouette and understated elegance make it an ideal centerpiece above a dining table, in an entry hall, or within a carefully curated contemporary, Mid-Century Modern, or Brutalist interior.
