Product description
Hand-painted Delftware potiche vase, made in the early 20th Century. Diameter 21 cm, height 52 cm. Delft pottery, also known as "Delftware" or "Delft Blue," is a type of Dutch faience that reached its peak popularity between the 17th and 18th centuries. Delft pottery drew inspiration from blue and white Chinese porcelain, which was highly prized in Europe in the 17th century. Delft potters sought to imitate the appearance of Chinese porcelain by using majolica, a tin-glazed earthenware. This technique was introduced to the Netherlands from Italy in the 16th century. Delftware is typically characterized by cobalt blue on a white background, although other colors were also used. Decorations include floral motifs, landscapes, biblical scenes, and oriental figures. Production involved several stages, including clay molding, firing, glazing, and decoration. The tin-oxide glazing gives the ceramic its characteristic opaque white color. Additional details: - Brand: Ceramica di Delft - Style: Delftware - Style: Delft Blue - Style: Maiolica olandese - Colour: Blu Cobalto - Period: Primi Novecento
