Product description
French pressed glass from the 1930s-1950s produced some of the most elegant tableware of its time. Simple in appearance, they reveal in the light a richness of detail that industrial molding cannot match. This double salt cellar brings together two hemispherical dishes on a pedestal base, connected by a central bridge. The wide, flat, scalloped rim is entirely covered with a decoration of tight molded beads, known as hobnail, which catches the light and multiplies it into a myriad of brilliant points. The bottom of each dish features a beaded rosette in the same style. Without a central grip, the form here is entirely dedicated to the decoration. The transparent glass lets light pass through and transforms the object into a small luminous sculpture on the table. Total width approximately 14 cm. Transparent pressed-molded glass, France, circa . On a set table or in a collector's display cabinet, this double salt cellar brings the discreet elegance of French pressed glass at its best.
