Product description
There was a time when plates weren't simply white. They bore flowers, colors, reflected the fashions of their era, and accompanied the meals of the same family for decades. This one comes to us from the Digoin-Sarreguemines faience factories, a grand house that is part of the history of French tableware. Its name is still intimately linked today to that antique tableware found in family homes, on Sunday tables, and in display cabinets where fine dinner sets were kept. The pattern bears a pretty name: La Rose. And yet, behind this generous rose with shades of old red and burgundy, the design is surprisingly modern. Lines intersect, extend, and segment the plate like a graphic composition. The gray-green of the foliage echoes the geometric lines, while the deep red of the flower gives the design its full presence. We are in that delightful period of the 1930s, when Art Deco entered even everyday objects. Floral motifs inherited from the previous century did not disappear: they simplified, became more graphic, and met the new lines of modernity. This is precisely what makes La Rose so endearing today. It possesses the charm of French home tableware and, at the same time, enough character to become a true decorative object. The reverse still bears its stamp LA ROSE, DIGOIN SARREGUEMINES, FRANCE. Diameter approximately 23 cm. It shows some discreet marks left by time and use, those one would expect from a piece of tableware now approaching a century of existence. A 1930s rose that has traveled through time without losing its colors. Additional details: - Brand: Digoin Sarreguemines - Material: Faïence - Colour: bordeaux - Colour: gris-vert - Period: 1930s
