Digoin-Sarreguemines, one of the most important 20th-century French faience manufacturers, presents here a gravy boat of remarkable freshness. The Agreste pattern, dating from the 1930s to 1950s, unfurls vivid bouquets of wildflowers across the gravy boat's ribbed body and the scalloped underplate. Red poppies, cornflowers, white daisies, purple columbines, and buttercups mingle in free compositions, each bouquet slightly different from the next, a sign of a skilled hand. The ivory cream background, accentuated by a thin burgundy line along the rim, highlights the pattern's brilliant polychromy. The form is classic and elegant. The ribbed body rests on a ring foot, the coiled handle is finely modeled, and the pouring spout forms a generous wave. The underplate with scalloped corners precisely cradles the gravy boat. The burgundy Agreste, Digoin, Sarreguemines, France stamp is present on the underside of the underplate. The set measures approximately 24 cm in length by 13 cm in height. In very good condition, with slight traces of use on the interior, the exterior pattern is intact. On a carefully set table, this gravy boat brings the warmth of country gardens. It appeals equally to Sarreguemines faience enthusiasts and to those seeking a serving piece for everyday use.
