This large ivory earthenware deep serving dish charms with the simplicity and directness of its design. A single flower, with six deep burgundy petals on a soft green heart, is borne by a slender stem accompanied by two elongated leaves. A fine burgundy line highlights the rim. Nothing superfluous. This type of decor, with a unique floral motif freely placed on the white surface, is characteristic of French productions from the 1950s-1960s. Manufacturers in Northern and Eastern France at the time offered affordable dinnerware sets with painted or stencil-printed designs, where color and form alone were enough to create an atmosphere.
