Beautiful Henriot Quimper faience plate, adorned with a Breton couple in traditional costume. In the center, the two figures appear to be taking a few dance steps, rendered in that deliberately lively and naive style which has become emblematic of Quimper faience. The costumes, rendered in deep blue, black, yellow, and old rose, add great character to the scene. The central decoration is surrounded by a remarkable cobalt blue marli with a speckled effect, then underscored by double blue and black lines. This particularly dense border lends the plate a very strong decorative presence and frames the scene like a picture frame would. Since the 19th century, the Quimper faience factories have greatly contributed to establishing a whole Breton cultural imagery within the decorative arts. Regional costumes, couples, musicians, popular scenes, and everyday characters make up a unique iconographic repertoire, uniquely recognizable. The reverse bears the mark HENRIOT QUIMPER France, accompanied by the workshop references F.G. 9016 MM. Diameter approximately 25.5 cm. Original hanging system on the reverse. A slight and tiny chip is present on the rim. A plate full of character, both a collector's item and a very beautiful piece of wall decoration, carrying with it a fragment of the history of Breton popular arts.
