Art Print Grand Hôtel De Knocke – Mappamundi – 1980s – 75 × 55 cm
Beautiful decorative art print of the former Grand Hôtel De Knocke, once situated on the dike of Knokke-Heist. The print features a blind embossing stamp and was produced based on an original design by Daveluy from the late 19th century.
The image vividly and in detail depicts the grandeur of the historic hotel and the sophisticated atmosphere of coastal life around the turn of the century. The art print is rich in fine details, including elegant figures, beach scenes, and the hotel's distinctive architecture. Also striking is the rural character of the surroundings behind the building, providing a particularly atmospheric snapshot of Knokke as it was back then.
The Grand Hôtel was founded in 1890 by the Brussels businessman Louis Van Bunnen, a friend of landscape painter Alfred Verwee. The majestic hotel rose amidst the dunes, at the end of the former Zeeweg, now the Lippenslaan. King Leopold II also stayed there for a few days in 1891. After expansions in 1905 and 1926, the building eventually had seven floors.
This art print was published by Mappamundi and sold in the 1980s by an art gallery in Knokke. It is printed on exceptionally heavy and sturdy paper, estimated at approximately 400 g/m², and executed in the style of the original lithographic travel and tourism posters from the Belle Époque.
Once framed, this is a beautiful eye-catcher for lovers of Knokke, Belgian coastal history, Belle Époque art, and vintage tourist posters. Publisher: Mappamundi
