Width: 20 cm Height: 38 cm Cable length: ~170cm Socket: E27 The Tip-Top pendant lamp is perhaps the most famous design by the renowned Danish furniture designer Jørgen Gammelgaard. It is not without reason that the lamp is included in the collection of the Designmuseum Danmark in Copenhagen. It is a typical Danish design from 1971, in which lacquered metal shells softly reflect the light downwards. With its stacked ‘roofs’, the shape is reminiscent of a pagoda – perhaps an unconscious source of inspiration for the design. Gammelgaard designed the lamp while working on school furniture for the United Nations in Samoa. In the hut where he stayed, he had access to only a bright fluorescent tube. To temper the blinding light, he cut out plastic lids from food rations and placed them as small caps over the tube. This is how the idea for the characteristic shape of the Tip-Top originated. This particular example no longer contains a fluorescent tube. The original socket has been replaced with an E27 fitting that accommodates a tubular bulb. It currently contains a 22.5-centimeter tubular bulb, which is included with the purchase. If desired, this can be replaced with another light source with a different brightness or color. Despite its age, the lamp is still in very good condition. Minimal signs of use are visible here and there, but these are difficult to capture in the photos. In short: a beautiful piece, ready to illuminate a new interior as an eye-catcher.
