Danish Teak Chest of Drawers, Denmark, 1960s
This compact Danish chest of drawers is a refined example of Scandinavian cabinetmaking from the 1960s. Elevated on slender tapered solid teak legs, the cabinet combines balanced proportions with practical storage in a restrained architectural form. The teak veneer is carefully selected and laid out to create a calm, continuous grain across the top, sides and drawer fronts, allowing the natural warmth of the timber to define the piece.
The three generously proportioned drawers are fitted with sculpted integrated pulls that are carved directly into the drawer fronts. Their faceted profile introduces subtle shadow lines while preserving the uninterrupted horizontal rhythm of the design. The upper drawer retains its original lock, adding an authentic period detail, while the drawer boxes are traditionally constructed from solid wood with hand-cut dovetail joints, reflecting the quality and craftsmanship associated with Danish furniture of the period.
Compact in scale yet offering generous storage, the chest is equally suited to a bedroom, hallway or living space. Its clean silhouette and understated detailing allow it to complement both mid-century interiors and contemporary settings with ease. The piece has been carefully cleaned, fully inspected and treated with a high-quality furniture oil after restoration, allowing the teak to regain its warmth and depth while preserving its natural character. It remains in excellent vintage condition with only honest signs of age and use consistent with more than half a century of careful ownership.
