Danske sideboard designed by Erik Wørts in the 1960s.
Erik Wørts was a renowned Danish furniture designer who played a key role in the golden age of Danish modernism. Born into a family of cabinetmakers, he trained at the Danish School of Crafts, where he acquired a strong foundation in traditional woodworking. In 1944, he moved to Sweden to work at Nordiska Kompaniet (NK), where he helped develop flat-pack furniture, a precursor to modern IKEA design.
The "Danske" sideboard was one of Wørts's first contributions to IKEA, crafted from solid teak in the 1960s. It is a perfect example of his signature approach: combining traditional woodworking with modern industrial techniques. The design features clean, elegant lines and durable construction, making it both functional and stylish. The piece reflects the early IKEA philosophy, with an emphasis on accessibility, affordability and adaptability for everyday use in the home.
