Product description
An exceptionally beautiful example of Danish lighting design from the 1970s, attributed to Lyskaer Belysning. This lamp combines all the characteristics that make Lyskaer's production so recognizable: layered metal discs, soft indirect light, and the perfect balance between functionality and ambiance. While many Scandinavian lamps from this period used bright orange, red, or copper accents, this version opts for something rarer: a refined pastel combination of light gray, powder blue, white, and pastel pink. The subdued hues reflect a short-lived design phase in the early 1970s, when Danish designers distanced themselves from the expressive use of color of the Space Age and embraced a calmer, more harmonious living style. Characteristics that point to Lyskaer origins: • Construction of multiple steel discs with a refined structure. Typical of Lyskaer's diffuse lighting philosophy. • Perforated metal top disc with three countersunk screws, according to Lyskaer production from circa 1972. • Plastic socket (E27, max. 60W) – typical of the brand's series models. • Absence of a brand label, typical of export models with only a wattage sticker. • Diameter ±38 cm. This corresponds to Lyskaer's mid-range series. Lyskaer's pastel line (ca. 1972-1978) is extremely rare. Many examples were unlabeled and exported in small quantities, resulting in few surviving lamps. Pastel colors like powder blue, light pink, and white-gray were considered avant-garde at the time: a more subtle alternative to the bright pop art hues of the early 1970s. For the collector; this lamp represents not only a piece of design history but also the romance of artisanal industrial design: hand-painted metal discs, carefully assembled, with a patina that only time can create. Lyskaer's pastel designs mark the transition from the energetic, futuristic design of the sixties to the more restrained, human modernism of the late seventies. This is no ordinary vintage lamp, but a rare piece of Danish design poetry from a transitional period where color, light, and form converged in perfect harmony. A true collector's piece. Not because of its name, but because of its character: simple, honest, and irresistibly beautiful in its understated simplicity.
