Rio Rosewood is the most sought-after and expensive of all rosewood species. Rio Rosewood (also Brazilian Rosewood) is a wood species from trees of the genus Dalbergia in the subfamily Faboideae (Legumes). Rosewood has been a highly valued hardwood for centuries. Since 1968, there has been an export ban on roundwood of this type in Brazil. In 1992, Rio rosewood was placed under species protection, and in 1998, its protection was strengthened. Until then, it was highly sought after for high-end designer furniture and executive office furnishings, as well as for its unique acoustic properties in musical instruments.
The term rosewood, which is called palissandre in French, rosewood in English, and jacarandá in Portuguese, is somewhat confusing. The English term rosewood is almost always incorrectly translated as "Rosenholz" (rosewood), but it does not correspond to the German term Rosenholz, which refers to a single species among the rosewoods, the so-called Bahia rosewood (Dalbergia decipularis). Furthermore, the genus Jacaranda, which also includes a so-called rosewood tree (blue-flowering Jacaranda), is distinct from the genus Dalbergia and therefore has nothing to do with rosewood. Absolutely stunning! The desk is in excellent to like-new condition. It was lovingly restored by a professional restorer using traditional and natural materials. This desk surpasses virtually everything we have seen in terms of depth, vibrancy, and nuance of rosewood over the years! It doesn't get much better than this!
