A very beautiful antique oval box bearing the Damart monogram, crafted in a decorative style characteristic of the 1960s-1970s. The quality of craftsmanship is immediately noticeable. The box has a pleasing weight and feel in hand, a carefully fitted domed lid, and an interior entirely finished in a deep, glossy black. The overall piece attests to particularly meticulous craftsmanship, far removed from the low-cost promotional items produced during the same period. The lid is certainly its most captivating feature. A large, blooming flower, surrounded by foliage, stands out against a deep brown background in a warm palette of orange, red, green, and gold. The decoration continues around the rim in shimmering brown hues, lending the piece true visual richness. This taste for Far Eastern-inspired designs was very popular in European interiors of the mid-20th century. Here, it is interpreted with enough care to make this box a truly lovely decorative object.
