Salvador Dalí was a Spanish painter and is considered one of the most important representatives of surrealism. As a child he was already very interested in painting. He received his first painting lessons at the age of ten from the impressionist artist Ramón Pichet. In 1941, Dalí gave up his surrealist style for more universal artistic themes. Le Tricorne (The Triangular Hat) is a humorous story about amorous exploits and mistaken identity set in late eighteenth-century Spain. Le Tricorne suite consists of twenty plates made by Dali for the edition of the story of Pedro A. de Alarcon. Dali's illustrations for Le Tricorne are a balance between the beautiful and the morbid. Image (1958): original etching on Van Gelder Zonen wove paper, plate #17, edition 260.
