Curated Studio Art Glass Duo – German Exhibition Pieces, Signed
Germany, c. 1980s–1990s | Studio Glass | Signed Artisanal Works
A striking pair of one-of-a-kind studio glass vases, both handcrafted and signed by skilled glass artists working within the tradition of West German postwar studio glass. These two pieces likely originated from a curated exhibition context — possibly linked to Rosenthal's renowned Studio Line glass showcases, which collaborated with various artisans and glassworks throughout Bavaria and beyond.
Each vase is a testament to craftsmanship, freely blown and shaped with a distinctive artistic vocabulary: one refined and architectural in deep aqua blue, the other richly iridescent in earthy tones with painterly inclusions and a dramatically flared, undulating rim. The aesthetic aligns with the experimental, sculptural glass objects promoted by German studios such as Karl Schmid / Zwiesel, Lauscha, or smaller ateliers tied to Rosenthal’s in-house gallery exhibitions.
Vase 1 – Blue & Green Sculptural Form
Free-blown, high-gloss glass in vibrant blue and green tones with elegant marbled swirls
Height approx. 20 cm
Base signed, possibly “Kohl” or “Koch”, lightly incised
Vase 2 – Iridescent Multicolor Organic Form
Free-blown art glass with iridescent yellow, amber, green, and lilac inclusions
Fluid top rim with a softly folded swirl, recalling a flower petal or sea creature
Height approx. 18 cm
Signed “Schmid 1989” – likely linked to Karl Schmid atelier (Zwiesel), active in Bavaria
A Harmonious Pairing
These two studio pieces form a sophisticated dialogue in color and form:
Cool geometry meets expressive swirl
Vivid transparency paired with milky opacity and iridescence
A meeting of northern European glass artistry with freeform, postmodern energy
Whether displayed together or individually, they will bring a sculptural elegance to any modern interior, cabinet of curiosities, or contemporary glass collection.
Condition
Excellent vintage condition. No chips or cracks. Minor surface traces of age consistent with handcrafted studio work.
