This sculptural candlestick, crafted from solid crystal glass, formally adopts the characteristic design language of the French glass artist Pierre D’Avesn, whose designs became renowned in the 1930s and 1940s for their sculptural, ribbed structures. The dynamically folded, star-shaped silhouette is reminiscent of an open flower, lending the object an almost organic vitality.
The solidly crafted glass body features pronounced ribbed structures that refract the light in multiple ways, creating vibrant reflections. The central candle holder is deeply recessed and elegantly framed by softly curved edges. The substantial weight and precise workmanship result in a high-quality, almost sculptural effect.
The original label, Vannes-le-Châtel, France, refers to the long-established glassworks in Lorraine, which stylistically echoes D’Avesn’s earlier designs. Unlike the original pieces, this is a later reinterpretation of the design, formally very similar to the well-known models, but not directly from the Pierre D’Avesn workshop.
A decorative object with classic French design language, it is equally impressive as a functional candle holder and as a standalone design piece.
