A rare post-war modernist set attributed to the renowned Belgian architect and designer Willy Van Der Meeren, comprising a coffee table and two restored armchairs.
A major figure in post-war Belgian design, Willy Van Der Meeren is known for his functionalist and socially conscious approach to furniture. Inspired by modernist principles, he developed rational, robust, and accessible furniture from the 1950s onward, blending industrial metal structures with minimalist lines that have become emblematic of Belgian design.
This set perfectly illustrates this aesthetic: a black tubular frame, highly architectural graphic lines, colored yellow melamine panels, and Eiffel-style metal legs.
The coffee table features an elegant rectangular yellow melamine top resting on a visually light black wire frame. The top retains its original patina with some signs of wear consistent with age, including two small chips visible in the photos, which do not detract from the overall appearance of the piece.
The two armchairs have been professionally restored. The seats have been reupholstered while retaining the original yellow and black speckled fabric, very representative of modernist designs from the 1950s. The yellow backrests create a particularly successful chromatic dialogue with the table.
