Saint-Genis-Laval, a commune in the Rhône department on the outskirts of Lyon. In the years , regional souvenirs were crafted in ceramic: small pots, vases, plates, all bearing the town's name in gilded cursive slipware letters. This is a beautiful example of this regional artisanal craftsmanship. The pot is bulbous and squat, with two ring handles and a lobed lid topped with a knob. The glaze is a deep and brilliant cobalt blue, with sky-blue streaks that create an effect of depth and movement, like a summer sky after a storm. Ochre-gold highlights warm up the piece. The lid features a raised floral decoration underglaze. The inscription "St Genis Laval" runs in gilded cursive letters on the body. Approximately 8 cm high, 14 cm wide including handles. Intact ceramic, vibrant glaze. On a shelf, in a display cabinet, or placed alone on a windowsill, this small blue pot captures light and attention. It possesses the discreet elegance of objects that never sought to be anything other than what they are.
