This Lota Sofa is a distinctive piece of furniture, designed by Eileen Gray in 1924. Gray was an influential Irish-born architect and designer, this sofa exemplifies Grays innovative approach to form, and functionality. The Lota Sofa was originally designed for Grays Paris apartment at Rue de Lota.
The sofa is upholstered in grey leather, with the cushions filled with down, making them not only soft but also lightweight. The sofa doubles as a comfortable daybed. The two side boxes, painted with high gloss piano lacquer, are removable and on caster wheels, doubling as side tables.
There are light signs of use, some discolouring on the leather, particularly on the structure of the sofa. The boxes have some chipped paint and light scratches.
