Cini Boeri for Arflex, two seater strips sofa in aubergine velvet, Italy 1968 The iconic Strips sofa, a comfortable and versatile design. Reupholstered in a beautiful high quality burgundy cotton velvet which gives this sofa a beautiful eclectic, and luxurious ambience. The playful, geometric lines of the elements remind of the visual appeal of a ‘Tetris’ game, adding a dynamic and contemporary flair. The sofa rests on low profile wheels, which makes it appear floating around. As one of Arflex’s most celebrated designs, the Strips sofa was honored with the prestigious Compasso d’Oro award, emphasizing its status as a true design classic. Cini Boeri (1924-2020) was one of the first post-war female designers to achieve a prominent role in the world of postmodern furniture design and architecture. In 1951, Boeri graduated from the Polytechnic University of Milan, the city where she was born and raised. With a degree in architecture, Boeri briefly followed an internship at the studio of Italian designer Gio Poni. Later she collaborated with Marco Zanuso for many years. In 1963 the Cini Boeri Architetti studio was established. Throughout her career, Boeri designed numerous items for Artemide, Gavina and later for Knoll, Arflex, Fiarm and more prominent brands. A characteristic element of her furniture designs are the modular sofa systems that she implemented in several designs, par example the well-known ‘Strips’ series. In 2011, Cini Boeri received the Compasso d’Oro Lifetime Achievement award for her outstanding work and is being named a Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
