This striking piece, Wall of Oil Barrels – The Iron Curtain, by Christo and Jeanne-Claude, was only the second collaboration in their young career. It consisted of eighty-nine oil barrels stacked on top of each other, over 4 meters high, stretching from wall to wall and completely blocking the street.
"Since our idea was never technically rejected, but simply ignored, Jeanne-Claude and I decided to do it anyway," he later explained. “It was built very quickly and was only in use for one night, from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. It blocked traffic – people got very upset – and then the police arrived.”
