The Chiocciola lounge chair, designed by Roberto Semprini in 1994 for Arredaesse, is a distinctive example of Italian postmodern design from the 1990s. Its name meaning “snail” refers to the spiral form integrated into the side of the seat, where structure and ornament resolve into a single sculptural gesture.
The chair is defined by a continuous silhouette. The curved back flows seamlessly into the generous seat, while the rolled side element forms a soft spiral volume that gives the piece its unmistakable identity. Slender metal legs with spherical feet introduce contrast and visual lightness, balancing the compact upholstered body. The armrests, finished in matching tone, reinforce the graphic precision of the design.
More than a lounge chair, Chiocciola operates as a sculptural object expressive yet controlled, playful yet composed. Examples from this production are extremely rare and seldom appear on the international market.
Condition
