The People's Revolution in China, also known as the Cultural Revolution, spanned from 1966 to 1976. Initiated by Mao Zedong, this period aimed to strengthen communist ideology and eliminate elements perceived as capitalist or traditional. Art and culture were profoundly impacted, with artistic production geared towards propaganda and the celebration of socialist ideals. Porcelain bisque figurines from this era reflect this ideological orientation. The motifs were varied: portraits of Mao Zedong and other communist leaders, scenes of the daily lives of workers and peasants, and symbols of the revolution. These images were intended to inspire and motivate the Chinese people, while reinforcing socialist values.
