Her work is abstract, then again on the edge of figurative. Charlotte Molenkamp's work is primary, dynamic and fierce, aimed at conveying strong emotions along the shortest possible path. The canvases are often hefty in size, which makes the impression even more overwhelming. Amidst all the colorful paint explosions, however, a sense of balance and harmony always remains, and the power of the first impression gradually gives way in the viewer to a sense of coherence and order.
Charlotte Molenkamp is one of Holland's leading artists. Nico Molenkamp taught his daughter the tricks of the trade but above all he taught her how to look. Years later, Charlotte has stepped out of her father's shadow and her paintings can be found in many a collection, including those of the Royal Family.
