Product description
This boat-shaped sauce boat with two pouring spouts is a piece of table art of accomplished elegance. The Limoges porcelain, with its luminous and translucent white, captures the light with that quality characteristic of major French manufacturers. The scalloped edge, the gold rim, and the gilded interior of the sauce boat immediately convey the care given to every detail. The decor is in the Chinese taste, which made the fortune of European manufacturers since the 18th century. On the body, a peacock with fanned feathers is perched on a branch, surrounded by polychrome flowers, yellow, red, and pink, and green foliage. Floral bouquets are scattered around the perimeter of the sauce boat and on the underplate. The decor, applied by transfer print and hand-embellished, has the fineness and precision that distinguish Limoges production of the interwar period. This piece comes from the Charles Field Haviland factory, founded in Limoges in 1882 by Charles Haviland's nephew. After its acquisition by Gérard, Dufraisseix, and Abbot, the GDA mark was affixed to the reverse alongside the Charles Field Haviland name, a stamp used from 1900 to 1941. The green lozenge with the CF initials and the central monogram dates the piece to the 1920s-1940s. The underplate measures 24 cm in length. The sauce boat, with two opposite spouts, measures 10 cm in inner width. The set is complete and integral. Very good condition. Slight wear to the gold trim on the edges, normal for its age. Decor intact, porcelain without chips or cracks. Additional details: - Brand: Charles Field Haviland GDA Limoges - Style: Chinoiserie - Colour: polychromes - Colour: jaunes - Colour: rouges - Colour: roses - Period: 1920s-1940s
