Designer: Hans J. Wegner Brief description: The CH25 is one of four chairs that Hans J. Wegner designed exclusively for Carl Hansen & Søn at the beginning of their collaboration in 1949.
Considered revolutionary at the time, the chair went into production in 1950. I have a second one available if there is interest. They have hardly been owned and are therefore in mint condition. The price listed is for one chair.
The CH25 Lounge Chair, with its distinctive form, is clean and simple – like many other legendary designs by Hans J. Wegner. The introduction of the Lounge Chair caused a sensation due to Wegner's choice of material for the backrest and seat.
The woven paper cord was a substitute for seagrass and was developed during World War II. The material had never been used for furniture before. Wegner, however, was enthusiastic about the look of the paper cord, which does not stretch and offers optimal durability, and the same has been true for subsequent generations. The CH25 Lounge Chair has enjoyed great popularity ever since and has been in continuous production since 1950 – a testament to Wegner's visionary design approach.
An experienced craftsman requires 10 hours and approximately 400 meters of paper cord to hand-weave a seat and backrest, using a specific, web-like technique visible on both sides of the backrest. The impressive result of this demanding process is an exceptional chair that captivates from every angle.
Year of manufacture: 2019 – consecutive production number – important due to the wood selection and weaving technique.
