Polychrome glazed ceramic - Nabeul - Tunisia - 1970 - Signed on the glazed side - ∅ 23.5 cm - H 4.5 cm - Beautifully colored ceramic featuring 3 unlikely sea creatures. Superb craftsmanship, a piece with an exceptional, singular and rare motif, inspired by the great masters of the French ceramic revival begun in the Valauris workshops during the 1950s/1960s. Very good condition, with an imperceptible, almost invisible micro-crack. Nabeul is renowned in Tunisia and abroad for the artistic quality of its pottery, particularly its painted plates and earthenware. Production was revived in the first half of the 20th century thanks to research by the Frenchmen Tessier and Verclos and Jacob Chemla. Their efforts were continued by craftsmen in local workshops, with the profession being handed down from father to son. Major museums began to take an interest in products bearing certain signatures, notably those of these renovators.
Very good condition, please note an imperceptible, almost invisible micro-crack.
