Ceramic Table Lamp with Raffia Shade – Studio Pottery, Matte Drip Glaze, 1960s/70s
Description:
A hand-thrown lamp base in a classic bottle shape: a voluminous, spherical body with a slender neck. The glaze is the defining feature – matte and sandy in ochre and earth brown tones, overlaid with dark, almost inky blue drips that run from the neck down the body. No repetition, no pattern: a unique piece straight from the kiln.
The unglazed base ring reveals its handcrafted nature. Not mass-produced, but a piece of pottery in the spirit of the studio pottery movement of the 1960s/70s, when ceramics transformed from utilitarian objects into works of art.
The matching shade is made of natural raffia/raw silk – a warm beige with a visible slub texture, perfectly color-matched to the earth glaze. With ceramic lamps from this period, the original shade is usually long lost; here it's present and complete. The natural fabric diffuses the light softly and warmly.

Ceramic: Very good condition. No cracks, no chips, glaze completely intact, base ring undamaged.
Shade: Good condition, commensurate with age. Small brownish spots and discolorations are visible in the natural fibers (see detailed photos) – normal for natural fibers after five decades. No tears, no holes, shape is stable.
