Ceramic figurine by Ceramiche Mollica, depicting a lady with a pair of Fox Terrier dogs, made in the 1940s. Ø 16 cm Ø 15 cm H 30 cm. Ceramiche Mollica is one of the most important and long-standing Neapolitan ceramic manufacturers. Founded in 1842 by Giovanni Mollica, this dynasty of ceramists has left an indelible mark on the Italian art scene, producing works of great beauty and refinement. The origin of the Mollica manufactory dates back to the mid-19th century, when Giovanni Mollica, son of a ceramist from the Real Fabbrica Ferdinandea and Giustiniani, decided to start his own business. The workshop, initially located in Via Santa Lucia in Naples, distinguished itself by the quality, especially in its figures and models made of red terracotta. Under the guidance of Giovanni's sons, Ciro, Achille, and Alessandro, the Mollica manufactory achieved national renown by the end of the 19th century, becoming one of the most important in Southern Italy. The figures often represent portraits of historical figures or scenes of daily life, made with great realism and attention to detail. Mollica majolica pieces are characterized by a rich and brilliant color palette, achieved through the use of high-quality pigments. The craftsmanship always favors traditional ceramic techniques, such as hand modeling and brush decoration. Mollica's works show the influence of various artistic movements, from classicism to neoclassicism, and even Art Nouveau.
