Ceramic plate "Field of Bread" made by Ceramiche Rossicone and designed by Mario Schifano in the 1970s, Ø 52 cm. Mario Schifano was one of the most important exponents of Italian and international Pop Art. Born in Homs (Syria) in 1934 and passed away in Rome in 1998, he left an indelible mark on the 20th-century art scene. Schifano, along with Franco Angeli and Tano Festa, is considered one of the fathers of Italian Pop Art. He was able to interpret and rework the visual codes of mass society, using images and icons from media, advertising, and popular culture. The artist experimented with various painting techniques, ranging from oil painting to screen printing, as well as collage. He also produced experimental films and videos. Schifano used a wide range of materials, such as plastic, vinyl, and everyday objects, which he incorporated into his works, giving them an innovative and provocative appearance. Recurring themes in his works include consumer society, media, celebrity, politics, and history.
