The Trinacria is the age-old symbol of Sicily. A central face, that of Medusa or a solar figure, surrounded by three bent legs radiating outwards like a star. Three legs for three capes, three seas. The Tyrrhenian Sea to the north, the Ionian Sea to the east, the Mediterranean Sea to the south. This symbol has been present in Sicily since Greek antiquity, more than 2,500 years ago, and still appears today on the island's official flag. This hand-carved wooden piece faithfully reproduces this ancestral iconography. The chocolate-brown patina, the gilded highlights in the hollows of the face and limbs, the irregular and lively handiwork — all bear witness to traditional Sicilian craftsmanship, far from mass production. A handwritten label from a previous collector explicitly mentions the three seas, confirming the piece's provenance and symbolic intention.
