Fully covered with a design of hand-chiseled scrolls and foliage on all sides, this sheesham wood box features an oval bone-inlaid medallion in its center, depicting a stylized leafy branch with a flower, encircled by an inlaid line. The relief carving also covers the four sides with a design of acanthus leaves and flowers. The interior is lined with royal blue velvet at the bottom, the lid lined with a patinated gold fabric. Gilded brass hinges. Length 17 cm, height 9 cm. Good overall condition, beautiful patina of use. Kashmir or Rajasthan craftsmanship, 1960s-1980s. Placed on a dressing table, desk, or shelf, this box catches the eye with the discreet authority of well-made objects. The dark wood and royal blue velvet create a warm contrast that highlights jewelry, rings, or small treasures.
