Hand-carved African hardwood palaver chair featuring a carving of a deer amidst foliage, a low seat, collapsible in a two piece construction. One available.
A palaver chair (chaise à palabre) is traditional to West Africa, where two interlocking pieces slide together without nails or screws. The seat slides through the carved back and is supported by the lower wooden structure, allowing the chair to be separated for easier storage and transport. The low seating height of approx. 20 cm creates a reclined sitting position that is surprisingly comfortable.
A brutalist sculpture with folk-art character, with a hand-carved deer surrounded by foliage etched on the tall backrest. The natural golden-brown hardwood has visible grain and tool marks, with carpentry pencil markings on the back that indicate handmade construction.
