Rare early ‘Orseolo’ dining table or large desk, designed by Carlo Scarpa in 1972 for Simon International. Simon was founded in 1968 by Dino Gavina and Maria Simoncini, after Gavina had sold his previous company. The table is constructed from robust panels in deep black high-gloss lacquer, interrupted by small satin-finished aluminium joints that subtly reveal the construction. The double construction of the tabletop, rounded edges, and two wide legs give the design a special balance between visual lightness and sturdiness. This original vintage piece bears the Simon label and predates the inclusion of the collection by Cassina. The surface shows a few superficial scratches, but is in very good vintage condition for an original old Simon version of this model.
