Product description
An exceptional dining table by Carlo Malnati, created in Italy in the 1980s. A particularly expressive example of postmodern Italian furniture design, where sculptural form, elaborate woodwork, and a free-form glass top merge into an almost object-like piece of furniture. The frame consists of a curved, organically shaped wooden body, whose flowing lines extend from the two bases, through a gentle curve, to beneath the glass top. Depending on the viewing angle, the table's effect changes dramatically: from the front, the construction appears almost delicate and floating, while from the side, the powerful, sculptural form of the wooden body is revealed. The elaborate marquetry work is particularly characteristic. Different types of wood and veneers form abstract, free-flowing compositions in natural wood, burl wood, dark gray, and violet tones. The grain is deliberately used as a design element. The result is less reminiscent of conventional furniture decoration and more of an abstract pictorial composition that extends across the three-dimensional surface of the table. A generously sized, asymmetrically shaped glass top with a beveled edge rests on the frame. The transparency of the glass allows the inlaid work beneath to be fully visible, simultaneously reinforcing the impression of a floating tabletop. Condition: Good, authentic vintage condition with signs of age. The glass top has a few cracks. The wooden frame and inlays are overall very attractive. Dimensions: L2m x W105m x H72m
