Product description
Elegant cabinet executed in precious mahogany wood. Beautiful cabinetmaking. The style is transitional, transition from Louis the 15th to Louis the 16th. Around 1750. 'Single curved' lower cabinet, also called bombed after the round spherical shape of a bomb of that time. The side is also curved. These cabinets used to serve to store linen. Those linens were very expensive at that time and also a status symbol. This furniture was also precious and a status symbol. Carefully selected mahogany to match the grain. This required the use of wood that came from the same trunk and planks cut from wood that had been sitting side by side in the trunk so that it "mirrored". The bottom drawer extends to the footer which is one with the drawer. This makes that drawer extra deep from the front. All drawers are made with a front of Mahogany and fine quarter-sawn oak with artfully dovetailed joints. The color of the wood has slowly lightened over those 270 years giving it an extra beautiful effect now. At the top of the hood an artfully carved ornament typical of the period. Fine detail can also be seen on the legs in front, solid cast brass ornaments. Custom made especially for this cabinet! Original locks. The key in the doors works but is later. Expansive and practical interior with lots of drawers and shelves. Made of beautiful quarter sawn oak panels. HxWxD 245 x 174 x 55 cm. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Elegant cabinet made of precious mahogany. Beautiful crafed.
