‘Night Owl’ wall lamp by Raak, The Netherlands, 1960s
A rare and sculptural wall lamp designed for Raak in the 1960s, this piece is known as the ‘Night Owl’ — a striking design that evokes the minimal, geometric form of an owl. Made of black lacquered metal, its distinctive dual-lid “eyes” can be opened or closed independently, allowing you to sculpt the light to suit your mood or setting. A perfect fusion of function and form, this lamp stands out as a masterpiece of mid-century Dutch design.
The eye-like diffusers create a playful and adjustable lighting effect — you can manipulate each side to dim or direct the light, making it as expressive as it is practical. The shape is bold yet subtle, with a presence that commands attention without overwhelming the space. These lamps embody Raak’s iconic approach to modernist lighting: sensible, sleek, and sculptural.
Three pieces are currently available at Studio Haag, all in very good vintage condition with only minor signs of age and use. The price is per lamp. In addition to the classic black version, Studio Haag also offers a rare white variant — a true collector’s find for lovers of mid-century and Brutalist lighting design.
