A piece of German design history:
A rare, minimalist chair from Hans Kaufeld with surprisingly good seating comfort.
The design dates back to the late 1960s. (See last photo: cover of the Italian architecture and lifestyle magazine "Interni" from July 1969!)
Construction:
Chrome-plated sled base – sturdy tubular/flat steel frame (Ø 20 mm / 10 x 50 mm).
The generously sized, opulent seat (circular: Ø 46 cm) and the wide, semicircular backrest/armrest are upholstered in the original, very durable black Skai leather.
Dimensions:
Overall height: approx. 72 cm

Overall depth: approx. 51 cm
Seat height: approx. 42–45 cm
Manufacturer and Design:
In 1920, Martha and Hans Kaufeld founded an upholstered furniture factory in Bielefeld-Brake, East Westphalia, Germany.
After the horrors of World War II, in which Hans Kaufeld was killed in a bombing raid, his wife Martha, together with their daughter Dorothea, rebuilt the upholstery workshops.
This was followed by an extremely successful period of business development. The Hans Kaufeld brand became internationally renowned and, to this day, stands for the highest quality craftsmanship and timeless design in the furniture industry.
In the 1990s, the company was acquired by the leading Swiss leather furniture manufacturer De Sede, before being sold to Bielefelder Werkstätten, Germany, in 2011/2012.
Today, the furniture brand Hans Kaufeld belongs to the JAB Anstoetz Group (Germany).
The design is attributed to Geoffrey Harcourt (Great Britain) and/or Josef Pentenrieder (Germany), who worked for Kaufeld in the 1950s and 60s.

Condition: Used furniture - well-kept and thoroughly cleaned condition. The steel construction has visible signs of use with lots of patina and chrome loss in places. (see photo) Upholstery and imitation leather cover are still in very good condition with unobtrusive signs of wear and slight bumps on the backrest. Very nice, authentic overall look!
