A beautiful, characterful vintage coffee table in the recognizable South American Mid-Century Modern / Spanish Colonial style from the 60s/70s.
This generous, rectangular table is an absolute masterpiece of artisan craftsmanship and shares the aesthetic of the renowned Ecuadorian designer Angel Pazmino (Muebles de Estilo). However, this specific model is an authentic Peruvian design, recognizable by the highly detailed leatherwork and the more ornate base.
The tabletop and the leather
The tabletop consists of very thick, high-quality harness leather, beautifully chased (hand-stamped) with pre-Columbian Inca motifs. The iconic Inca sun god Viracocha, with his two staffs and feathered headdress, is depicted in razor-sharp detail in the central panel. The edge of the tabletop is secured all around in an artisanal manner with large, characteristic bronze decorative nails/knobs. The Base
In contrast to Pazmino's often very sleek, square frames, this table rests on a beautiful base with gracefully turned wooden legs (solid mahogany or Mohena wood). The legs are connected low to the ground by a wooden crossbeam, giving the table a very robust and stable construction.
