Product description
Solid brutalist art glass plate by Pentti Santalahti, Humppila, Finland. This is a typically sharp piece of Finnish design from the 1970s, simple yet bold with a very stylish look that will make a statement. It features a warm brown, almost dark honey centre surrounded by clear textured glass. The plate gives a minimaluxe feeling, combining luxury with pared-back simplicity. It measures 28 cm in diameter and about 5 cm high and is in very good condition. Santalahti, like many Finnish glass designers, was influenced by the rugged Finnish landscape, casting textures from materials such as tree bark and rock. Finnish glass art is renowned worldwide, with iconic pieces displayed in exhibitions and museums. The international spotlight for Finnish glass art began in the mid-1930s with artists such as Alvar Aalto, Oiva Toikka, Tamara Aladin, Tapio Wirkkala, Kaj Franck, and Timo Sarpaneva. The 1960s and 70s saw important designers like Helena Tynell and Nanny Still. New artists continue to innovate in this tradition. Additional details: - Brand: Humppila - Designer: Pentti Santalahti - Colour: Clear - Period: 1970s
