A very beautiful handcrafted bronze statuette from Cotonou, Benin, Benin, Dahomey, Africa. It depicts a lion, hyena, or other predator holding prey in its mouth, such as a sheep or antelope. The bronze has a uniform and clean original dark/brown patina. The work features extremely fine details and is hand-hammered. It dates from the 1940s-1970s or earlier.
The statuette measures 19cm in maximum length, 13cm without the tail, approximately 8cm in maximum width, and approximately 16.5cm in maximum height (head). It is in very good overall condition, with a small, discreet chip on the top of the left ear; otherwise, there is nothing significant to note. This is a very fine and meticulously crafted piece that will delight lovers of African art. It weighs approximately 1kg.
