A beautiful everyday object, sturdy and unadorned, like many found in kitchens of yesteryear. This stoneware storage jar features a generous cylindrical shape, slightly rounded at the shoulders, and finished with a short, wide-mouthed neck. This opening was intended to receive a stopper, traditionally made of cork or a similar material, which is absent today. Its coppery-brown glaze offers beautiful nuances, oscillating between deep brown, ochre, and bronze depending on the light. A characteristic finish of these utilitarian stoneware pieces which, in the 1960s-1970s, still maintained the full tradition of jars intended for storing dry foodstuffs in the kitchen. Flour, sugar, salt, spices, cereals, or other provisions could thus be safely stored in these solid, durable containers. With its simple lines and warm material, it now possesses all the sought-after charm of old kitchen pottery. It can naturally regain its function with the addition of a suitable stopper and join a collection of antique stoneware jars. Some traces of time accompany the piece and attest to its past use.
