Breathing is a pair of organic wooden sculptures by Ineke van Zuuren, created in the 1970s and carved from solid wengé. The works explore the subtle tension between mass and movement, presenting two vertical forms that appear to respond to one another through quiet spatial dialogue.
Each sculpture is reduced to a flowing, sculptural volume in which the contours swell and taper with controlled precision. The forms evoke the rhythm of inhaling and exhaling, suggesting a sense of living presence within the material.
