Product description
This elegant table lamp was produced by Falkenbergs Belysning in Sweden during the 1960s. Combining brass with a warm-toned wooden stem, the design is characteristic of Scandinavian lighting from the period, in which natural materials are paired with refined metalwork and functional adjustability. The lamp is built around a slender wooden stem, carefully carved to resemble bamboo. Subtle raised rings divide the stem into sections, creating the distinctive appearance of bamboo while retaining the warmth and natural grain of the wood. This decorative element forms an appealing contrast with the brass components used for the circular base, upright support and adjustable arm. A horizontal brass arm extends from the upper section and supports the light fitting and shade. The articulated construction allows the position of the light to be adjusted, adding a practical element to the otherwise restrained composition. Small darker details at the adjustment point provide a subtle visual contrast to the brass and wood. The circular brass base gives the lamp stability and visually anchors its tall, slender silhouette. The combination of materials and carefully considered proportions results in a design that is decorative without becoming overly ornamental. The lamp has been fitted with a new cotton shade, selected to complement the warm tones of the brass and wood while remaining sympathetic to the character of the original design. It has also been rewired. Please note that is slightly skewed.
