An example of refined French cabinetmaking, this watch stand is composed of two original and coordinated elements: the shaped case and its plinth-shaped pedestal. The structure is entirely decorated with the Boulle marquetry technique, characterized by complex gilded brass inlays on a red tortoiseshell background.
Bronze Decorations: The object is embellished with fine gilded and chiseled bronze applications, including a winged cherub on top, a classical mask above the compartment, and allegorical scenes in relief on the base.
Condition: The presence of the original stand makes this set a rare find on the antiques market, testifying to the high quality of Parisian craftsmanship from the first half of the 19th century. Watch weight: 959 g, stand measures 22.4 x 15.8 cm.
