This piece of furniture is the "Borkum" model, designed for IKEA by the renowned Swedish designer Johan Bertil Häggström during the 1970s and 1980s. It is a sought-after and valuable vintage design object. It embodies the era's characteristic Bauhaus aesthetic, featuring a cantilevered, low-slung upholstered shell set upon a striking tubular chrome steel frame. While most surviving examples come in classic chocolate brown, black, or with a dark blue neck roll, this particular piece stands out due to a rare feature: a striking magenta leather neck roll that creates a vibrant contrast with the black seat shell.
